8×10 on canvas | acrylic | intuitively led, 1 of 1 original piece by Mary Morgan, created July 2026
WARRIOR
Abuse does not only hurt you while it is happening. It changes the way you see yourself. It teaches you to question your instincts, shrink your needs, distrust your own memory, and believe that survival is the closest thing you will ever get to freedom.
Leaving did not instantly restore me.
I had to gather myself back in pieces.
My voice.
My body.
My choices.
My belief that my life belonged to me.
That is what I see when I look at this painting. Not a woman untouched by what happened. A woman reassembled by her own hands.
Not unscarred.
Not unafraid.
But upright.
Warrior is not about him. It is about the part of me he could not destroy.
